Books, Movies, CDs, Audiobooks, Collectibles

Items may be shipped to or dropped off at our Community Outreach Center/Used Book Store in Washington, DC.

Small quantities of books may be deposited in our collection bin located at the Georgetown Safeway (next to the left set of doors) on Wisconsin Avenue in Washington, DC.  PLEASE DO NOT PUT BOXES FULL OF BOOKS INTO THE BIN - PLEASE BRING THESE TO OUR STORE.

We have a large quantity (50 items or more) pick-up service for Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Washington, DC, and Bethesda/Chevy Chase, MD.  For larger quantities we will go even further.  Please email

Children's books URGENTLY needed!  


Hardcover and softcover books of all types, except...WE CANNOT USE HARDCOVER FICTION - PLEASE DO NOT DONATE HARDCOVER FICTION BOOKS (it is almost impossible to donate hardcover fiction novels to shelters, prisons, etc.)  Softcover fiction from 1995 to the present is great - pages must by white - no yellowing); we need self-help; biography; art; photo; how-to's; history; gardening, cookbooks; religion; politics, etc.

Encyclopedia Britannica sets from 1990-present are needed, individual volumes are not.

Movies - DVD and VHS

CD's - music, instructional, videogames, etc.

Audiobooks on CD or cassette

Collectible items such as antique/autographed books, vintage magazines, comic books, memorabilia, figurines, etc. are very useful - we will auction them and use the proceeds to fund our programs.  You will receive a tax-deduction for the full auction value of the item!  We can accept any kind of collectible/rare item, including
figurines, etc.

We do not need...

- Hardcover fiction unless signed or collectible
- Textbooks - please no textbooks unless they were published in the last two years
- Book Sale "Leftovers"
- Yellowed or damaged books
- Magazines
- Outdated books - including travel guides/books published before 2002; politics or current events published before 2005; items that look dated or just plain old (unless antique)
