| Total Books Donated in our first year 2002 = 4,970 Metropolitan Police Boys & Girls Club = 1,550 books
Books for Washington, DC formed a partnership with the Metropolitan Police Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington, DC. The clubs serve 15,000 kids from disadvantaged communities in our nation's capital. In September and October 2002, Books for DC donated a total of 1,550 children's books, reference, and general educational books to ensure club libraries can properly serve each child. We were excited to assist the DC Metropolitan Police in working to build a strong bond between their officers and at-risk youngsters through "out-of-the-classroom" reading and educational programs.
WVSA Arts Connection = 100 books
The mission of WVSA arts connection is to serve Washington DC area children and youth with special needs through service-oriented programs using the arts as a tool to master educational, vocational, and other life skills. Our goal is to provide programs to individuals who battle substantial risk factors that may inhibit their potential. Books for Washington, DC provided 100 art books to WVSA to assist with their educational programs.
Calvary Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center = 225 books
CBMLC offers an extensive learning program to more than 400 children, youth, and families from the Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant, and Shaw neighborhoods of Washington, DC. Serving individuals of different races, cultures, and languages, CBMLC has created a learning environment that respects and builds upon the multicultural aspects of the community in which it is located. DC Coalition for the Homeless = 230 books
Books for Washington, DC gave 230 children's books to DC Coalition for the Homeless for distribution to youths in Coalition shelters.
Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care = 300 books

Washington Home & Hospice = 15 large-print books, 30 music CDs
The Home's mission is to provide quality health care and end-of-life services with compassion and innovation to foster dignity and independence in those we serve. When the Home put out a call for music for their resident patients, Books for Washington, DC was happy to be able to deliver a significant number of classical and jazz CDs.
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind = 20 audiobooks
Since 1900, the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) has offered programs that enable individuals who are blind or visually impaired to obtain and maintain independence at home, school, work, and in the community. Books for Washington, DC regularly sends shipments of audiobooks to the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.
New Hope Housing = 200 books
The mission of New Hope Housing, Inc. is to provide homeless families and individuals with shelter and opportunities to seek a better life. They accomplish this in part by providing programs to promote literacy, high school equivalency, English as a second language and computer skills instruction. Books for Washington, DC was pleased to be able to provide several hundred children's books to New Hope Housing.
Arlandria Health Center for Women and Children = 500 books

McGwire Veterans Hospital = 1,000 books
The hospitals serves hundreds of veterans in the Richmond, VA area and put out a call through the American Legion Riders for donations of paperback books. Books for DC responded by filling their shelves with 1,000 books!
Virginia Association of the Blind = 6 audiobooks
The Virginia Association of the Blind assists visually impaired or deficient individuals, and the friends and familis of these individuals.
Hospice of Northern Virginia = 200 books
Books for Washington, DC was pleased to supplement the hospice's in-patient center library with several hundred books - both adult fiction and children's books - to serve not only the Hospice's residents, but also visiting family members.
